Our Trustees

Jan Campbell Young
Jan lives near Honiton in East Devon and became a Home-Start trustee in November 2013.  She runs her own businesses delivering executive coaching and leadership development in the public sector and renting out holiday cottages on her farm during the summer.

She qualified as a pharmacist many years ago and spent most of her early working life in the NHS ending up as Deputy Chief Executive in a large London Teaching Hospital.  Jan is married with a grown up daughter and 2 naughty dogs.

Jan has spent 5 years as a primary school governor and believes that children love to learn and that they develop best in a caring supportive environment with lots of positive encouragement.  She is delighted to bring her skills, experience and approach to development to the management of the scheme.

Maggie Carter
Maggie became a Home-Start trustee in December 2013, having spent her working life focussed on trying to improve the lives of children, young people and families especially those who face challenges.

Maggie has been a teacher of children with special needs, an educational psychologist and a leader of services that support children, families and schools, most recently at Plymouth City Council.  She retired in September 2013 and says, "I am pleased to have the opportunity to use my experience to contribute to the work of Home-Start who provide a fantastic service to families and help them feel better about bringing up their children and getting back on track.

"I live near Exeter and am married with two children (one of each!) who are now grown up. I still have strong memories of their early years and of feeling that no-one had helped me know how to do this new job of being a parent. I want to play a part in enabling Home-Start to continue the great work it does with families."

Jackie Evans

Jackie lives with her partner Gary and a menagerie of animals just outside Exeter. She runs a couple of business in Exeter, a freight forwarding company and a Pat testing company.  Jackie has three adult children and a one year old grandchild.

Jackie joined Home-Start as a trustee in May 2017 because she felt that she could help make a difference, seeing first hand through her work with teenagers in care how support for families and their children is so vital.

Jackie says "There is no manual for raising children; it can be hard and challenging.  Parents do not always have the support they need around them and Home-Start can help families who feel like that."

Sally Quilligan

Sally has recently moved to Exeter and became a Home-Start Trustee in October 2017. She runs her own nutrition and skincare business and volunteers as a BEEP mentor.

A registered nurse, Sally worked in a variety of roles including Specialist Practice Nurse, Menopause Nurse Specialist and Nurse Tutor before finally spending 10 very happy years as a Lecturer in Clinical Communication at the University of Cambridge. Sally is married to Tom and they have 2 grown up children. Tom and Sally are very much looking forward to settling in Exeter near Sally's Mum and where she spent many happy holidays.

Sally believes passionately in supporting mental and physical health through compassionate care. When introduced to Home-Start she immediately resonated with the values recognising the importance of recognition, support and friendship for volunteers and families. She is delighted to use her experiences to contribute to the work of Home-Start.
